Rachel & Jack's Wedding

Rachel and Jack wed at The Oak Grove, in Upchurch, Kent, on 14th September.

Rachel is close friends with my sister and I’ve always got on well with her, so when she asked if I would photograph her wedding to Jack I was honoured! She even went as far as to base the date of the wedding as to when I was available!!

Rachel, her bridesmaids and family all got ready at their family home before heading to The Oak Grove. Rachel and her Father travelled in Jack’s truck, which was a great touch! The venue is one of those very special places where from a distance you don’t really expect anything, as all you can see is the incredible oak trees, but once you’ve parked up and walk towards the Grove you find your jaw dropping and going ‘woooww!’ Perfectly secluded, with amazing dapple shade, the owners have created a space that is perfectly suited to a boho style wedding where every detail is thought through to be inkeeping, even down to the eco-friendly loo roll!!

The ceremony takes place within a gazebo that has climbers wrapping all around it, with all the guests sat on wooden benches, and the whole feel is very ‘at one’ with the environment. As Rachel & Jack walked down their aisle, while being covered in flower petal confetti, the smiles on their faces said everything about how much they were loving the day, each other and their guests!

Everything takes place in the Grove and this includes the drinks reception, allowing the guests to mingle and enjoy the setting, and after a while we took a few family photos before the wedding breakfast began. Following on from the vibe of the day, and the couples wishes for a really relaxed and fun day, the speeches ticked all the boxes with hilarious tales, poignant mentions and loving thoughts.

After the desserts had been eated up, and how very good they were too(!), I took Rachel and Jack up onto the Saxon Shore Walk, along the River Medway. This beautiful walkway is a stones throw from the Grove and, in the late afternoon sun, provided the couple with the chance to have some alone time, with me jumping in for the occasional photograph.

As we wandered back I could see the sun was setting and the sky was starting to produce a really good sunset. After taking some photos of the evening guests arriving and everyone enjoying the warm evening, I took Rachel and Jack into the neighbouring field for some portraits using the sunset. The way the sky filled with colour was something you very rarely see and I just love how these photos came out, as did the couple!

Rachel and Jack had hired Happy Hour to perform in the evening and they did not disappoint! As soon as the first dance was over everyone headed onto the dancefloor and the partying didn’t stop til it was time to leave! I love a sparkler send off, where the guests line either side of a walkway so the couple can walk down this (much line the confetti walkway) and these shots proved to be a fitting way to end a lovely day for Rachel and Jack.
